Proofreading
The devil's in the details.
Nothing takes a reader out of a story as quickly as a typo on the page, and even the most meticulous writers make mistakes. Give your readers a polished final product free from misused punctuation, spelling and word usage errors, and embarrassing typos.

What I look for on a proofreading pass
Spelling mistakes
Punctuation mistakes
Verb tense consistency
Correct word usage (wary vs. weary, affect vs. effect, etc.)
Grammar and syntax errors, while being mindful of author/character voice and tone
Character and place name consistency, including verifying real-world spellings
Basic narrative consistency (Did Billy say he grew up in Seattle in chapter two but Tacoma in chapter twelve?)
Editing mistakes (double words, extra words, spacing issues, etc.)
Proofread according to the Chicago Manual of Style
Every story gets two proofreading passes
to ensure a pristine final product!
to ensure a pristine final product!
I read your story straight through on the first pass, ensuring I understand the plot, characters, and setting.
Then I shuffle your chapters and read your book again out of order, checking for any persisting, sneaky errors.
